Shows at 7:30pm & 9:30pm.
At age 26, Christian Sands is an emerging jazz force who possesses a wealth of instrumental technique inextricably linked to his broader musical conception: “My music,” says the pianist, “is about teaching the way of jazz and keeping it alive.” In doing so, he takes a fresh look at the entire language of jazz and its tributaries: stride, swing, bebop, progressive, fusion, Brazilian and Afro–Cuban. Sands was just 20 years old when he received two GRAMMY Award nominations – Best Latin Jazz Piano Solo and Best Latin Jazz Album – for his performance on Bobby Sanabria’s Kenya Revisited. As a member of bassist Christian McBride’s trio and quintet, Christian has performed at festivals and concert halls around the world; as a leader, he’s released four impressive albums.
